In common with all natural timber products that are exposed to the elements, your gate will be affected by the weather. The timber will dry out quickly under extremes of sunshine and wind leading to visible signs of ‘checking and splitting’. Using a vapour permeable wood stain such as Cuprinol or Sadalin will help to minimise this if applied over the whole gate before exposure to the weather.
